Portal Implementation

Hi,

We have a project with the EP, but will have a lot of business in it. We thought about taking the business part and put it in the J2EE part, and we intend to use the Portal Applications only for the presentation part, and all the business logic should reside in J2EE application.

Is this possible from the SAP point of view, has anyone here tried something like this.

We would use EP SP2, with SAP J2EE 6.20 engine.

Thanks.

Best Regards Lucian

I haven't done it but I think you can do it using EJBs and JCO.

    Hello Lucian,

it depends to the skills of your development team. If they are familiar with Java and EJB's then they should use this. But if they are coming form the ABAP world I think it would be the best to stay there and encapsulate all business logic in RFC enabled Function Modules.

We did something like you are proposing. I came up with a tiered design where each iView relied on a business object (Java class) to handle the business logic. In turn, each business object relies on a generic "connector" component service for access to CRM.

The fact is that all the business applications remain in the Java world(classes developed by us), so it seems logic that we use the Java approach for business applications. My question was about the your experience in this field.

For now we succeeded in building an example with a EJB and a iView, and I think we are on the right track.

    Thanks for the Feedback.

    Regards,

    Lucian.
