Restore App Doubt

Former Member

Hi,

I'd like to know what type of "data-values-etc" change after restoring an Appset.

This is because on the manual says only SQL data values, BPC Security and webfiles are modified during the restore.

In this case, there are 2 environments, PROD and DEV.

On DEV i have built BPFlows, celsius reports, etc... and im about to restore an App to PROD.

This means that if I want to work with all these components, the install, etc has to de done again right?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Velázquez

I'm not sure that I clearly understand your question...

You say you have DEV and PROD environment. Do you have BPC Server on each, with same version and Service pack?

In that case when you restore your Appset in Prod, its content should be identical as in Dev, including BPFs , as they are part of the appset.

As for Xcelsius, that is a client-side tool, so you would have to change to connection to point to the PROD server and re-publish the reports.

Hi Bruno,

Thanx for your response, seems like i omitted a couple of details...

Both servers do have the same service pack and version (BPC 75 MS version, SP04), what I wanted to know was which "components" (Excel reports, appset security, bpflow, etc) are transported in the Backup, specially because in the DEV server Xcelsius was installed and some reports were not fully completed, therefore after restoring the appset to the PROD server at least some of this "work" would remain to be completed.

Hi Velasquez,

the Excel reports will be "transported" as part of the backup/restore process if they were stored on the server (in which case they are part of the appset). Reports saved on the client computers of course would not be included.

Appset security will be retained "as is". Meaning, the users would still be listed in admin console even if they refer to a domain that is no longer relevant. If both systems are on the same domain, the security would be preserved and ready to use upon restoring the appset.

I believe that BPFs are also included, but you might have to re-publish from the template - i'n not sure.

Xcelsius reports - it depends where they are. If they are in document library, then they should be included in the backup/restore.

Cheers

Bruno

Dear Cvelazquez,

SAP BPC MS version is different with SAP BPC NW version. What you have done in development and backup your Appset in Dev server, your production server will same with Dev server after restore Appset. Please keep in your mind that BPC MS version use mirror concept in backup-restore Appset. BPC NW use transport concept, just BPC configuration will load into PROD Server.
