API to connect to external database

We have customer master information in our base R/3 system(version 4.6C)that needs to be synchronized with information kept by a third party. The 3rd party has provided us with some API code that can be used to pass information between systems (not SAP specific). We'd like to call this code at certain points in the customer master create/change process. I've been searching various forums (SAP Fans etc.) to see if I can find information on doing this but have been unsuccessful. Has anyone tried something similar?

Have you looked into using remote "views" instead? I am on a project now that has a quite nice solution where they have built a view in SAP that actually "looks" into another database external to SAP. That way, the data appears live at all times and can be called directly in SAP programs/functions/etc.

Otherwise, there are some good examples out there (ie. the web) for external connections to data sources. Try the usual SAPfans.com forums, searchSAP.com, etc. first.

    Hope this helps.
