XML Forms or HTML?

Hi Crew,

The feeling from SAP implies that the KM solution is not a web content management system however, the progression of XML forms based publishing and the HTML editor would indicate the capability is always a possibility.

Management of iView content using these two methods has its merits however, at design time the XML forms standard functionality is minimal, and the HTML editor does not constrain the content manager enough in terms of layout.

Therefore, my question is which method is the most used, and which method is a higher priority on terms of development for SAP?

Paul

    Hi Paul,

I just wanted to mention that it is possible to use

the XML Forms Builder as a bootstrapping mechanism

for an XSL project. Of course, once you hand-modify

the transforms, you can't use the editor anymore

and have to maintain everything yourself.

If you have good XSL skills, though, it might be a

good compromise to get around limitations of the

standard functionality if you are willing to assume

    the maintenance risks.

Other features that allow you to use KM to create

web-like content include the image map and HTML

collection renderers. There are a couple of good

presentations on some of this stuff here on SDN.

Look for the stuff from Larry Brambrut.

Also, be aware that the HTML editor cannot be used

to edit arbitrary HTML files! It works well with

    Copy and Paste, though.

    Regards,

    Darin

    Hi Darin,

What you have mentioned is pretty much the view we have however, it would be interesting to find out would direction SAP is placing more priority on in terms of publishing web content type of files.

    Regards
