storage type

Hello Professionals,

Here is a process flow of GR.

1. Goods Receipt : Door --> Staging area -> Storage Type 901 GR Zone -> Storage type 001 consisting of storage section.

May I know why is the Storage type in the storage section different than that in the GR zone ?

Must it always be like that as in from 1 storage type re-assigned to a different storage type?

Or is it that it should be same storage type only?

regards

Pascal

Storage type 901 (and generally storage types 9** in standard system) are INTERIM storage types, they serve as an interface between Inventory Management and Warehouse Management.

Since they are interim (logical) storage types, it's reasonable to place the goods to a "normal" storage type (like storage type "001" in your case). "Normal" storage types, sections, bins correspond (generally) to physical places/locations within your WH.

(in certain cases goods are not moved to "normal" storage type, e.g. in case of cross docking)

Hello Pascal,

Generally during put away goods are placed in interim storage type for packing purpose or inspection purpose. From there we move the material into the standard storage type and bins, which may have been marked in material master record.

Storage type in GR zone is different than the standard storage type to distinguish between the goods movement happening within warehouse.

If you have recieved 10 qty from your vendor against your purchase order, it will first come to GR zone 902 storage type.

You can see thsi in MMBE T-CODE and then go to Environment and check WM stock.

Here you will see 10qty lying in GR zone 902 (interim storage type) with storage bin as your Vendor purchase order numberXXX

So all storage type strating with 9** are used as interim storage types , which help in easy identification and referncing the goods movement occuring during stock placement or stock removals.
