costing variant in sale order

Dear all gurus:

Here I'm facing a problem now.

Now I'm simulate a configuration material sale order and we would like to run the cost estimate for sale order once it is saved. But unfortunately, we don't like the default cost variant in sale order and we could not manully to change it. Do anyone know how to config the the default costing variant in sale order?

As I know, the cost variant could be assigned to requirements class.

requirements class could be assign to requirements types

requirements types could work with item categorya and material MRP type.

Even I changed the configuation, but the result is as the same before.

Could any give me some direction?

You could configure different item categories/schedule line types. This would allow the user to select different choices.

The purpose (one of anyway) of the costing variant is to provide consistent product costing. If you want to allow the users to play with the costing, you can allow them to convert the estimate based on the quantity structure into a unit cost estimate. The users can then adjust the costing.
