Print Smartform Barcodes in Intermec Printer PM4i

Hi,

Has anyone printed the barcodes from smart form in ECC 6.0 in Intermec PM4i Printer? Per Intermec manual it supports the smart form printer. we have already installed ZSim 5.19 D firmware in our printer. We could print the test barcodes locally from the printer. But it is not printing the barcodes from smartform. Did we miss any steps? The intermec PM4i manual do not have any steps for smart form. IF you have any tips, please let me know.

Hey. Had problems with ZSIM and Intermec too.

I configured everything right but nothing worked.

But in the end i found the missing setting. I already made all settings for network in Fingerprint mode but to print you have to have ZSIM in foreground as system and there I didn't know that I have to put in all network settings again.

To load ZSIM: When you start/restart PM4I press enter on shell. Select ZSIM as application.

Thanks for the tip Suhel. I have changed the language of the printer to ZSIM but never in the way inwhich you described. I will give this a try.

Could you provide any information concerning the device type, SAPScript page format, or network driver?

I realize this maybe a large request but I am in a desperate situation and any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Aaron,

The Device type is LZEB2 : Zebra Label Printer 203 dpi. It will emulate ZPL and print SAP Smartform barcodes. It will print the barcodes from SAP Smartforms. Are you using smartform or SAPScript to generate the barcodes in SAP?

The above solution is only for SAP Smartforms.

For SAPscript, you need not install ZSIM, ZPL II interpretter. Intermec got another utility called ERP Label to Label Shop PRO which will print the labels from SAPscript.

Hi Subbu,

Which language did you ahve the printer in? ZSIM, Direct Protocol, other?

Here are my current config values:

Print Device = LZEB2

Printer Language = ZSIM

When I send a very basic Smartform to the printer, it displays "Downloading 1%".

When the download is complete there is a label that list the font download but no Smartform.

I have tried Courier, Helvetica, Times as the styles.

HELVE is the only font that works i think!

Another thing:

You can use the Intermec printer also with devicetype SWIN (Transaction: SPAD)

For that you need the normal windows driver for the intermec driver on your printserver/sapserver waht ever you use to print.

If you use SAPWIN you use normal fingerprint/ipl mode on intermec printer.

BUT you need then for barcode the new barcode technologie in se73.

I work with both settings. Because ZSIM with landscape mode isn't working really fine.So for landsacep I use the SWIN method and usually I take the ZSIM --> LZEB2 method.

Problem Resolved.

We use the Intermec PM4i in the ZSIM language mode. The device type is AZPL203 (tc SPAD).

With these settings SAPScript will not work from my experience however see OSS 974185. This note describes how old SAPScripts like RM07ETIKETT have been converted to PDF Forms like RM07ETIKETT (see t-code SFP) . This is a huge improvement for the developer. With this knowledge we changed config to call program SAPM07DR and routine "ENTRY_WE01_PDF" (See TC M706). Next the interface of the form was created to receive the parameter values supplied in routine "ENTRY_WE01_PDF". Now we have data and things are working fine. Barcodes too.

One word of caution: If the panel buttons of the PM4i fail to work and/or blank labels print without stopping then probably a non PDF doc (ZSIM mode) was sent to the printer. Try turning off/on. May have to reconfigure printer.

We could solve the problem by defining the Printer device type as LZEB2 : Zebra Label Printer 203 in SPAD.

The Intermec printer PM4i supports the SAP Smartform through Zebra emulator.So the intermec device type LB_INT did not print the ZPL command labels from SAP Smartforms. The zebra printer device type LZEB2 worked.

Please try this and let me know.
