BW 3.5 and SEM

Hi all,

We are planning to upgrade BW 2.1C/SEM 3.0A to BW 3.5 platform. It will be of great help if somebody can share their experience in:

a. Upgrade to BW 3.5 from BW 2.1C

b. Upgrade on SEM-BPS in 3.0A to BW-BPS

c. Requirements of SEM (which release, etc.)for CPM & BSC in BW 3.5.

Hello Sujoy,

Mike pointed out the dependency already, but I want to be very clear. You have an SEM system, therefore you can only upgrade to BW 3.5 if you also upgrade to SEM 4.0 at the same time!

You can find a list with the release dependancies on the SAP Service Marketplace: http://service.sap.com/sem > Development News & Release Notes > SEM & BA Release Schedule.

So your question (b) is not really relevant. You will have BW-BPS 3.5 and SEM-BPS 4.0, which includes the parts of BPS that are not in BW-BPS (for example, the planning applications or the cost center planning wizard).

Hi,

From the BW perspective:

I would suggest you attend the BW 3.0 delta trainings so you have a good understanding of the architectural and functionality changes with BW 3.x.

SEM also has Delta training, if I remember correctly.

SEM 4.0 (part of mySAP ERP) is the required SEM release for SAP BW 3.5

Hello Sujoy,

To be able to upgrade to BW 3.5, you will have to wait for SEM 4.0 to be available. Lower versions of SEM are not supported on BW 3.5.

Apart from that there should be no difference in the upgrade/functions. Check out the release notes.
