Netweaver for Beginner

Hi All,

Currently iam in ABAP & now a days I hear lot about Netweaver. I have read the details given in Getting started... What I understood is Netweaver is a package with components like EP, MDM, BI etc. As a beginner to this Netweaver & currently in ABAP I request to suggest which is the best one to learn in all these components because no one can learnt these different parts of Netweaver. I appreciate if any one can suggest on this.

I am interested in Web application Server but I fear that I have to forget Abap and go to Java programming if I take WAS. I also need you help whether it is compulsory to learn all the Netwaever compnents or its enough to master in one of the components of Netweaver.

Thanks in Advance.

    Greetings Suresh,

The good news is that you have found the SAP Developer Network (SDN), the central location for all SAP NetWeaver technical information and news for the developer community around SAP NetWeaver. SDN allows you to have access to Weblogs run by SAP experts, original articles and white papers, moderated discussion forums, downloads, and more. SAP also makes all of the latest and greatest SAP NetWeaver evaluation tools available on SDN.

If you are already an SAP customer or partner, you can use the SAP Service Marketplace ( and access e-Learning modules for SAP NetWeaver components. You can also access the SAP Education site to see a schedule of current class offerings around SAP NetWeaver, including the SAP Web Application Server (WAS). The SAP WAS differs from all other application servers in that it supports both Java and ABAP, along with all of its runtime features.

SAP NetWeaver includes the following components: XI, Mobile Infrastructure, MDM, Enterprise Portal, Web Application Server, and BI. There are different curriculum and certification paths offered from SAP Education for each of the SAP NetWeaver components so it is best to begin with the curriculum path that best meets your personal and professional goals as well as your degree of technical expertise. Cheers! Angie

Software downloads are available today on SDN including the WAS v 6.40, EP 6.0 SP 4, DW Studio 2.05 and PDK. CAF is coming soon and I recommend accessing SDN on a regular basis for updates as new software downloads are frequently announced. Cheers! Angie
