Query migration between from Prod to Development?

Hello Everybody,

Did anyone try to migrate a query based on Production cube to Development environment?

I tryed to use XML Import/Export but am not sure how exactly to do this (and if it works at all).

Will appreciate your help,

Vitaliy

    Hi Vitaliy,

No one uses the transports from production to development.I had the same issue and i was forced to copy all the production queries to development manually.I tried XML also but could not succeed.I tried importing and exporting objects using XML and it was working fine but not queries. You can do it in the meta data repository. If you find any better solution let us know.

    Ravi.

    • Ravi,

Thank you for prompt respond! Just wanted to ask 2 more questions:

      - When exporting into XML, what Java class did you type in XML Import/Export screen?

      - Do you know if I can get query details in one document, that specify all the details?

      I tryed this:

http://<server>:<port>/SAP/bw/doc/meta/fldmeta/default?tlogo=ELEM&objnm=<query_name>, but it shows only dependencies with other elements, not the whole definition.

Finally I copied the query manually as well, but it required clicking into all detailes of original query to check definitions, like exceptions or characteristics' restrictions.

      I am using BW 3.0B.

      Regards,

      Vitaliy

    Hi,

I think i used com.sap.bw.cwm.core.InfoObject class. You can get the details of a query using RSRT transaction.Thanks.

Currently exporting queries via XML is not supported in BW. Its covered in an OSS message. It currently only supports exporting and importing modeling like InfoCubes, ODS's, etc...

    Hi Vitaliy,

we had the same need in the project, and we transported from P to D using the transport system.

As there will no standard transporting route defined you will need the help of basis to make the import into D. Additionally, you will need to keep care that the objects you want to transport are not yet available in D with the same technical name (otherwise there'll be objects having the same "visible" technical ID, but differend internal GUIDs - this might dangerous especially for variables and globally defined reporting key figures).

After importing into D (which should really be an exceptional case), also the original system of the development objects needs to be redefined from P to D. This can be done by manually editing the corresponding TADIR-entries in D.

But please be aware that this transportation "method" is not supported and desired by SAP as it might lead to inconsistencies.

    Regards, Steen
