S/4 HANA & S/4 HANA PPDS Integration

The Product Assitance guide (https://uacp.hana.ondemand.com/http.svc/rc/PRODUCTION/f431c95360267614e10000000a174cb4/1610%20000/en-US/frameset.htm) gives some information on the functionalities available. This is also supported by the SAP Note 2382787. But nowhere is it apparent to me on how is the data exchange happening b/w S/4 HANA & S/4 HANA PPDS. Is there a CIF? Did SAP create PPDS in S/4 as sub-module v/s creating it as a separate unit needing CIF?

Also, how does MRP live impact PPDS? Are we expected the follow the same process that we did in APO, i.e. 1st step MRP Live & 2nd step of detailed scheduling Heuristics? the language on the URL above is very confusing (as it still refers to APO).

Any hints would be useful.
