Portal Masthead par file issues

Former Member

Hello Experts,

I have odd things going on, I went into my portal to download the com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead file.

After I downloaded it it came in the format com.sap.support.portal.browse.default, and I noticed the file was only 1KB.

When I unzipped the file I only saw two files inside it, File.txt (0 bytes) and a css folder with a jpg image inside it.

What could be wrong? I was expecting there to be a par file that I could use in NWDS to brand the portal.

I'm on Portal 7.0.1 SP6.

Regards,

MM

In fact, now that I look, ALL my par files under deployment are no bigger than 1KB and with hardly any content?

I did a patch upgrade from SP3 to SP6, could this have broken this?

Any input is very appreciated.

You can download the masthead par file from the server.

/usr/sap/<SID>/J<Instance number>/j2ee/cluster/server0/apps/sap.com/irj/servlet_jsp/irj/root/web-inf/deployment/pcd/

Thanks for the info,

but I'm thinking the portal actually references the files from this particular directory anyway, so if its showing 1KB in the portal wouldnt it be 1KB in the path you specified?

Ill check with basis anyways whether this is the case.

Hi,

The PAR files can be obtained from System Administration -> Support -> Portal Runtime -> Browse Deployment. Then follow the path ROOT/WEB-INF/portal/portalapps/ com.sap.portal.navigation. <name of the par file> download the file and save it with .zip as extension. Extract the .zip file to obtain the par file.

Before downloading the file, it would be better if you browse it there to see the content. It should have the PORTAL-INF folder. But anyways the size of par file is definetly more than 1KB.

Hello,

I managed to download the file as you stated from the path. The file here was 104KB. But when I renamed the file to .zip format, the extraction tool complained that it is not a valid zip file.

It depends on the ZIP tool you use. By default, the ZIP / WAR file you download from the portal is a little bit tricky:

1. Use 7zip to open it

2. You'll see a .bak file that has the name of the downloaded component

3. Extract this bak file

4. rename the file extension to PAR

5. done. You have the right PAR file that you can unzip / modify / upload

Hi,

You can either follow Tobias reply or the other alternative is to download the par file from the location below:

System Administration - Support - Portal Runtime - Browse Deployment

ROOT/WEB-INF/ deployment/ temp/ search for com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead.par.bak and next to that you will see 2 links view, download click on View it will popup to open or save the file , Select save store it on system and now rename the file with any name .par and you can do import this file to NWDS and start doing modification.

or Open using ZIP to see the content of par file.

Hope this helps.

Cheers-

Actually, after extracting, I just had to rename the file with a .par extension even though it was just called com.sap.portal.support.default

The filename never actually extracted out as com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead.par.bak

Hi Marshall,

You are right, it will never come with the name com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead.par and even you should also not give this name. If you do so, then it will overwrite the existing par file of standard masthead.

So what you need to do is save it with some other name, use this in NWDS and deploy on your required server with some name(comp/client standards), so that you can use this par for iView creation.
