Obtaining data via RFC from CRM instance to HR instance

Our SAP/HR is on it's own instance of SAP. We are implementing a separate instance of CRM and we have a need, in CRM, to obtain some data from HR. I was hoping to use a standard function module in HR and call it remotely (RFC) from CRM. The standard function HR_READ_INFOTYPE is not a Remote-Enabled module so we can not use that. Is anyone aware of any standard way, without creating a custom function is HR, to dynamically read HR data from CRM?
