Chart of account(COA) conversion

Hi,

We had one question for Chart of account(COA).

Original, our Chart of accounts are 8 digit.

For some reason, we plan add some Chart of accounts to 9 digit.

Note : not all COA will conver to 9 digit, we only plan add FEW COA(9 digit)

Questions:

1. how to add new Chart of accounts(9 digit) to original COA structure ?

Does it have any effect for operation system ?

2. how to transfer amount from COA(8 digit) to COA(9 digit)

Does it have any effect for operation system ?

Will it effect history data after conversion ?

3. If oneday, we plan to comeback again, COA(9 digit) -> COA(8 digit),

the conversion procedure as same as Q1 and Q2 ?

Conversion of chart of accounts is a pretty huge project, tantamount to SAP re-implementation. You have namely three different strategies:

1) Re-implement SAP with the new CoA and carry over only balances from the previous system into the new one.

2) Re-implement SAP with the new CoA and develop strong data migration programs to carry all data into new system (please be cautioned that the integrative nature of SAP makes this exercise very cumbersome)

3) Go for SAP proprietary service that converts the CoA within the same system.

In all cases, the project requires significant effort and time.
