Is there a way of setting a default language in EP6.0 SP2? Or having a default language set for each user without the user having to go to portal personalization.
Hi Everyone,
Since this is the language experts forum, I will post this here. How am I able to tell the Portal that the english coming from SU01 is UK English and the dates should be formatted dd.mm.yyyy style and not American style since in the backend I only have one English, and the portal has several of them....

Paulo Poinha

On a similar note, when creating iViews they default the language to Catalan. The portal is set to use English, the Users are set to use English and all our browsers too (we're not using an LDAP yet - this is a test/demo box).
Any way we can make the iViews suggest English first or is this an EP6 feature?
Gracias.

Hi Claude (and others),
just let me briefly describe, how the locale is generated in the EP.
The locale is defined by the following order:
1. Default language of User
- if personalization is maintained
- if attribute is given in DB or LDAP
2. Default-language of Browser - if maintained
3. Default-locale of Portal Runtime
4. Default-language of Portal Object - if maintained
5. Default-Locale of PCD configuration (defined in pcd.template.properties)
To answer your question, if no locale for user is set, then the Browser settings will be taken.
But I guess, this can hardly by controlled. Thus, the best way to guarantee that all content will be displayed in e.g. English, personalization is the best option.
Best regards,
Julia

What portal language does this map to? Plain "English"?
If so, then I would suggest determining what LDAP field the portal looks to for a default language and then mapping that via LDAP config to the a field in your AD and filling that field accordingly.

Looks like I needed to be a bit more specific. SAP has developed a Digital Asset Management add on in the portal and it currently only supports English(en) and not English (en-us).
We are a NT shop and when I look at our server the only language option available is English US. Not sure if we have to use a different code page set but I can not find a English(en) on our server standard configuration. All of the other English variants are there but no "en".

You can either map an attribute that is in your ADS to language element (in the UME LDAP config) or you can use Personalization.
If you do not define a language then the default language of your server is used. (in UNIX - locale)

You can specify the default language for a user when you setup their account.
