ITS performance issues

We are on ITS 6.2.0 and Patch level 9. One of the iviews (T&E, part of ESS) that uses ITS has a very slow performance. When we remove SSL Encryption the performance is better. however, we need to use encryption. Please advise on how we can improve ITS performance and what are the most looked at parameters in such a situation.

Thanks,

VNU Basis team

Your biggest concern should be your connection handling. If you do not properly set keep-alive and do not present proper html headers (such as Content-Length) then you will see many socket open/close operations. Socket handling is a huge performance bottleneck in SSL if your server/client do many negotiations.

Make sure: keep-alives are enabled, the timeouts are reasonable (ie > than the typical user think time between navigations), chunking is enabled, and you are using an HTTP 1.1 compliant browser.

Perform a trace of your http session and see how many times you get a Connection: close header from the server or if any requests do not use keep-alive.

      Nick,

As for the connection: close occurances, it happens every time a transaction is accessed via WGATE on ITS. I notice that is what is consuming most of the transaction time on T & E. Any advise?

      Thanks,

      Suman.
