PDS / Modes in PPDS

Hi Mods,

As per my knowledge production planning in PPDS would involve:

1. MRP

2. Detail Scheduling

MRP doesnu2019t consider capacity. Therefore even if we have more than one PDS it will load the entire order in first PDS (capacity not constraint). REM heuristics is exception (can be applied for only one resource)

The solution is to model alternate resource as MODES. (Using work center class 19)

Questions---

Is it possible to use multiple PDS instead of Modes for capacity planning?

If modes are used, if one resource is overloaded system will automatically chose the secondary resource (used in mode) u2013 MRP doesnu2019t consider capacity; so the alternate resource selection happens in Detail scheduling heuristics - Please confirm

Thanks AMOL, Quota arrangement will not fruitfully solve our requirement. We are looking for auto PDS / alternate resource selection based on capacity constraints.

Is modes the only solution or their is some heuristics which can auto select PDS based on capacity constraints.

Also am facing a new issue: I am not able to create MODES in APO.

Basic Process for creating modes:

1. Create WC class type - 19

2. Assign all the res to be considered in modes the wc class and assign identical characteristics to the resource

3. In routing click on the classification and re-assign the classification

I am done with step 1 and 2, but when i am trying for step 3 its giveing me error: "Data for class type 018 has not been converted yet"

Please guide: I am using SCM 5.0
