Error in Crystal Reports 8.5.0.217

background: I work for firm that needs forms that can easily be filled out, so several fields are pulled from a server (such as the name of the recipient, etc.).

I have created a report in Crystal 8.5.0.217 running on Windows 2000 Professional, but when I try to open it now it gives me the error:

"crw32.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created."

I took the same report that generated this error and tried opening it on a different computer outside the company running Crystal XI, and it opened fine (but of course I could not create a preview since the information for the dependent fields reside on the company server).

I do not know the exact configuration of Crystal (since the program was here long before I was), and I do not think the company is willing to upgrade. Is there any way I can recover my report so that it works on our company machines which have version 8.5? I would just save to the Crystal XI format, but I believe it is not backward compatible (especially with a version as old as 8.5). I appreciate any help you could provide!
