sneak preview WAS 6.40 installation hangs

Folks,

I encounter the following problem while trying to install

the WAS 6.40 Sneak Preview: during the installation (that

is, executing sapinst.exe), I cannot get past the step

"MaxDB Database Internal Installation (internal processing)"

When sapinst.exe reaches this step, CPU usage goes up to

100% and the installation doesn't continue (sapinst.exe

doesn't come back for a couple of hours). So finally I

cancel the installation and do an uninstall and try to

re-install. I've done this 3 or 4 times but am having

always the same probolem.

This is a fresh installation on a W2K SP3, Pentium M

1,4GHz, 1GB RAM, 40GB HD with j2sdk1.4.2_4 -- so I

shouldn't have any system requirement issues (IMO).

I don't get an error message. Here are the last couple

of lines the LOG window contains:

To me this looks ok, do you have ADmin rights on the computer?

It seems to be the case that the master password,

required as initial installation step, influences this

behaviour: I've used today a different system than the one

above. If I use a master password with plain alphabet

characters (no ! @ ...) it steps over the internal DB

installation. A master password with non alphabet characters

leads to the situation as described above on the second

system as well. I still need to check the inital system, to which my initial post referred.

Unfotunately, the installation doesn't run through yet. I'll

post the new behaviour in a new thread.
