Hi ,
In MARA table we see the description of the material in fields MAKTX and MAKTG. What is the difference between the two fields.
Regards
Nandini
Hi Nandini,
The Fields MAKTX and MAKTG are fields maintained in Table MAKT.
MAKTX is the field which holds the Description of material upto 40 characters in original format ( this might be combination of both upper case and lower case alphabets).
MAKTG is the field which holds the Description of material only in Upper Case.
By having descriptions in Uppercase it helps the user in MATCHCODE, i.e., if user wants to enquire based on material description for let us say Capacitor or CaPacitor etc., then when enquiring with MAKTG field is more simpler.
With Best Regards
Srinivas

The fields are actually not in MARA, they are in MAKT table.
SE16 just displays them as info when looking into MARA.
MAKTG has the description in capital letters only while MAKTX has the description like you enter it in MM01
