6.40 on XP Professional installation failure

Hi,

I tried to install WebAS 6.40 on XP Professional logged on as Administrator with j2sdk1.4.2_04 installed and all environment variables set. I don't run any other program during installation and my antivirus software is deactivated. I've rebooted my PC several times and removed failed components manually.Nothing helps. Here is the error message in the log:

Question is if you have a sapdb already running. You cannot determine this by just not having applications running. Sapdb rzuns as a service. Please check those and then do an uninstall.

When I ran the install the very first time and experienced the failure I ran the uninstall. I received the message that said that "No MAXDB instance is found". So I tried to run install again in a hope to pick up where I'd left. But I would get the error I am reporting in this posting above. So, I can'c continue install and at the same time I can not do the uninstall. After doing it several times along with rebooting my PC periodically I just removed the Web AS 6.40 directories. The problem persists.

    Hello Andrei,

the user used for the installation also has the appropriate rights/permission for the directory "c:\sapdb\programs\"?

    Regards,

    Roland

I am logged in in XP Professional as Administrator who does the actual installation. This directory C:\sapdb\programs is created by the installation process. How would this help? What can I do?
