Very old messages in the database

Hi,

i just made a copy of the report RSXMB_SHOW_STATUS (this report takes verlong because he is firing a lot select count(*) against SXMSPMAST) and refined the report a little bit to see a time distribution of message- and adapterstatus.

i'm faciong that i still have messages from 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 in the system.

The retention period is 14 days. The delete job, delete history job, archiving job, aggregation job is running on a daily schdule. the report SXMS_REFRESH_ADAPTER_STATUS is running on a daily schedule, too.

The number of messages is not a huge one, approximatly 10.000 per year.

i'm just wondering why these messages cant be deleted/archived? Ich some of them up und checked them in SXI_MONI, i cant see any error and they cant be cancelled.

What other possibilities are there that those messages are not deleted? How can i get rid of them?

Dear Rainer,

in case this issue has not been resolved after following section 5 of SAP note 872388 step by step please open an OSS ticket at BC-XI-IS with reference to this thread. This is because it is almost impossible to identify the root cause for not deleting these messages without having access to them. This definitely exceeds the scope of this forum and should be handled by SAP Support.

Hello Rainer,

Message status 003 is a Final status, hence it satisfies on of the prerequisites to delete messages.

Also you said the messages are out of the retention period (because they're very old) and this is

the second prerequisite.

The third and last one is the Adapter status, which shooul be in a final status either, which is the 000.

To do that so, since the messages are in 007 status, run the report SXMS_REFRESH_ADAPTER_STATUS.

As i said in #1, this report to refresh the adapter status is running every day.

Here's one from 2006: Adapterstatus is 7 and Messagestatus is 3, ITFACTION is ARCH.

WRP, STO and DEL archiving jobs are scheduled and running every day without any problems - except that this message is not archived.

MSGUID is 01080020063011DBBE18000255D3C405, completly uninteresting for you, i know, but maybe someone else has a specific question and so i can refind this faster.

Is that interface is a synchronous one? If so, for more info, synchronous messages are not archived.

Hi Rainer,

Perhaps they're not in a Final status.

You may post for us what are the messages and adapter statuses of the

messages as per the reports.
