Hi,
I have referred to some documents on Data Services XI 4.0 which is probably released up with a ramp up version. It is mentioned over there that BOE 4.0 instance is integrated with in Data Services XI 4.0. I want to go ahead with Data Services intallation XI 4.0 but we have already BOE XI 3.1 with BW 7.01. So i am confused if data services xi 4.0 already have BOE 4.0 instance then can we still use and integrate BOE 3.1 with our data services. Would it be compatible or otherwise what is the solution.
Hi Aditya,
From the XI 4.0 Data Services Upgrade Manual:
2.1 Major changes in Data Services XI 4.0
Unlike previous releases of Data Services and Data Integrator, SAP BusinessObjects Data Services
XI 4.0 introduces central user management, which relies on SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise. Users
are authenticated against the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise security, and repositories are registered
in SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise.
You can use either an existing SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0 installation to manage Data
Services users and repositories, or SAP BusinessObjects Information platform services, which is availabe
to all Data Services customers and contains the required SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise services for
user management.
For information about installing SAP BusinessObjects Information platform services, see the SAP
BusinessObjects Data Services Installation Guide.
So it sounds like you can't use an exisiting BOE XI 3.1 CMC, but would need to upgrade it to XI 4.0 or use the SAP BusinessObjects Information platform services, which is included with XI 4.0 Data Services.

It sounds like 'Data services platform services' is the 'user management' services of BOE XI 4.0 and is bundled with Data Services 4.0 for those customers that do not have BOE XI 4.0. However, you have a good question regarding an existing BOE XI 3.1 installation. I would think that if you choose to install 'platform services' then this would be separate from your existing BOE XI 3.1 installation, I can't imagine that it would be able to use your BOE XI 3.1 back-end without upgrading to BOE XI 4.0, however you would need to get a definitive answer on this from SAP. Note: you can't skip the BOE connection, you must either upgrade your existing BOE XI 3.1 to 4.0 and use that instance or you must install 'platform services'. This is how users are now managed in DS 4.0.
