    Hi,

Expansion levels are basically needed when you are using MDX formula to define the expansion. For example, if you use AFTER, then it will display the descendant members from all levels subordinate to the expansion level. Please find the excerpt from help.sap:

BEFORE u2014 (Default) Returns descendant members from LevelDown value only. Includes Member only if the LevelDown value specified is the level of Member.

AFTER u2014 Returns descendant members from all levels subordinate to the LevelDown value.

LEAVES u2014 Returns leaf descendant members regardless of the level.

SELF_AND_AFTER u2014 Returns descendant members from the LevelDown value and all levels subordinate to LevelDown value.

SELF_AND_BEFORE u2014 Returns descendant members from the LevelDown value and all levels between Member and the LevelDown value.

SELF_BEFORE_AFTER u2014 Returns descendant members from all levels subordinate to the level of Member

BEFORE_AND_AFTER u2014 Returns descendant members from all levels subordinate to the level of Member except members from LevelDown value.

Here, leveldown is same as expansion level.

    Hope this helps.
