adding new tablespace and increasing existing table space on db2

Hi Experts,

At the time of installation we have taken automatic storage for DB configuration.

Now we are upgrading to EHP4 by using EHPI Tool.While end of the checks

phase system is giving information / error to increase the existing

table spaces and creating new table spacacs.

For ex : create tablespace PED#EL701DX with 780 MB

create tablespace PED#EL701IX with 400 MB

create tablespace PED#ES701DX with 39990 MB

create tablespace PED#ES701IX with 10420 MB

But because of the autostorage option during the installaion in DB2 9.7

is not allowing us to create new tablespace with the above given size

and not allowing us to increase the existing table spaces.

please guide us.

Regards,

Sandeep K

    Hi Sandeep,

    For this issue, it would be best to open a message with SAP under componant BC-DB-DB6 and it will be analsyed through there. The issue is known but analysis cannot be analysed via a thread, apologies for inconvenience caused.

    Hi Sandeep,

    In my db2 database, automatic storage is active but I am able to create the tablespaces. Have you tried to create it with DB13 ?

    Thanks

    Sunny

    Hi,

    We have faced exactly the same scenario.

    You can follow one of the two solutions mentioned below :-

    There will be a script generated in your system named as DB6TBSXT.CLP. You can run this scipt to

    create the tablespaces.

    Else for your scenario, I would suggest to create a new /sapdata File system with enough space (e.g. 80 Gigs)

    to hold this 4 new tablespaces and also extend the other exsiting /sapdata filesystems(which were

    created during SAP inst) by 20-30 Gigs in order to allow the auto extended table spaces to grow

    during upgrade.

    In the new /sapdata file system (e.g. /db2/PED/sapdata16), you can manually create the 4 new

    tablespaces :-

    A sample tablespace command mentioned from IBM guide, I don't have link now but you can

    just replace the FILE with exact file system path > - you may take help from DB2 DBAs of your project.

    create tablespace SID#STABD in nodegroup SAPNODEGRP_SID pagesize 16k managed by database

    using ( FILE '/db2/SID/sapdata1/NODE0000/SID#STABD.container000' 503 M )

    using ( FILE '/db2/SID/sapdata2/NODE0000/SID#STABD.container000' 503 M )

    using ( FILE '/db2/SID/sapdata3/NODE0000/SID#STABD.container000' 503 M )

    using ( FILE '/db2/SID/sapdata4/NODE0000/SID#STABD.container000' 503 M ) on node ( 0 )

    extentsize 2 prefetchsize automatic dropped table recovery off

    autoresize yes maxsize none no filesystem caching;

    A sample DB6TBSXT.CLP script :-

    -- ******************************************************************

    -- DB2 CLP Script Template for Adjusting the Size of Tablespaces,

    -- Creating new Tablespaces / Database Partition Groups / Bufferpools

    -- during the Upgrade

    -- ******************************************************************

    -- Execute the file as PEDadm or db2PED with

    -- the following command:

    -- db2 -tvf DB6TBSXT.CLP

    --

    -- Before executing the script, check all container sizes,

    -- names and paths.

    -- All '$' characters must be replaced by appropriate values.

    --

    -- If neccessary "CREATE DATABASE PARTITION GROUP" commands

    -- and "CREATE BUFFERPOOL" commands are generated.

    --

    -- As this script can be overwritten by subsequent

    -- upgrade steps, we recommend that you copy it before

    -- making the changes.

    -- ******************************************************

    connect to PED;

    create tablespace PED#EL701DX in nodegroup SAPNODEGRP_PED

    pagesize 16384

    extentsize 2 prefetchsize automatic bufferpool IBMDEFAULTBP

    dropped table recovery off;

    grant use of tablespace PED#EL701DX to public;

    create tablespace PED#EL701IX in nodegroup SAPNODEGRP_PED

    pagesize 16384

    extentsize 2 prefetchsize automatic bufferpool IBMDEFAULTBP

    dropped table recovery off;

    grant use of tablespace PED#EL701IX to public;

    create tablespace PED#ES701DX in nodegroup SAPNODEGRP_PED

    pagesize 16384

    extentsize 2 prefetchsize automatic bufferpool IBMDEFAULTBP

    dropped table recovery off;

    grant use of tablespace PED#ES701DX to public;

    create tablespace PED#ES701IX in nodegroup SAPNODEGRP_PED

    pagesize 16384

    extentsize 2 prefetchsize automatic bufferpool IBMDEFAULTBP

    dropped table recovery off;

    grant use of tablespace PED#ES701IX to public;

    terminate;

    Don't forget to provide grant previledges as mentioned below for manually added tablespaces too.

    grant use of tablespace PED#EL701DX to public;

    Then continue with the Ehpi ..it should run fine.
