Max number of dataproviders in the same workbook

Hi,

Do you know please what is the max number of dataproviders (recommanded by SAP) we can use in the same workbook / Bex analyzer?

For information, we are in BI 7 based on excel 2003.

Thx.

Hi,

Do you mean how many queries we can insert into sinlge work book right...

I think its depends on how many work sheets you ca insert into your excel is equal to that many queries we can have in single workbook.

I don't think you will be able to run that many queries a time.

Hi,

I mean that we have one Workbook based on one query, but we would like to use a several dataproviders via the "analysis grid", in order to have a lot small boards (tables) filtered every time on one (0Comany) value ==> Static table structure with dynamic data refresh.

The problem is we have a runtime issue, and we would like to know if SAP recommend a MAX NUMBER of dataproviders (not queries) in the same workbook, in order to avoid the runtime issue.

Thx.

it doesnt have a hard and fast rule which determines how many DP's should be there.

it depends on the amount of data it fetches. if each DP fetches more than 10000 records and you have 10 DP...

it will take a lot of time to process all this data and the DB runtime and the OLAP run time will be high and may end in run time errors...

analyze the performance related issue before you use lot of DP's....

Thank you Ghuru,

We have to use more than 50 dataproviders (every DP contain less than 10 records), is it a lot for you ?

Other thing, instead our solution (using dataprovider to filter data), do you know another way to have several boards (tables) filtered every time on the same object value (0Company).

In other words, we would like to have one independant board (table) per 0COMPANY value.

Thx a lot for your answer.

One suggestion is:

Each tab (copy of the query) would have distinct filter value(s). In workbook settings, Uncheck "Allow Refresh of Individual Queries". Also in WB settings, Do Not Refresh at Opening. For the entire 50-tab workbook, the filter is limited to a minimum: company code and the date range because the other filters are hardcoded in each tab. When you refresh and change variable values at opening the file, all you enter is the company code value and the date

You might also want to change the Grid Properties: Uncheck Apply Formatting (for performance); and Uncheck Allow Navigation. You can add these back later. Might as well uncheck Sort.

I have my own question about the DPs. Can you rename them from the generic Data Provider 1 or copy of Data Provider 1?

Thx Susan,

We can't use "Allow Refresh of Individual Queries" because we haven't the right SP.

Concerning your question, you can use the "Copy sheet" menu to copy all shhet data (dataproviders, but other sheet items ..)

The system rename automatiquely these item copies in the new sheet (copy).
