Load balancing algorithm for groups in RZ12

Hello,

I would like to know the load balancing algorithm for groups defined in RZ12.

I know that log on groups for external connections are administered via SMLG and table RZLLICLASS.

I also know that RFC resources can be managed for RFC logon groups via RZ12.

Kind regards,

Peter

I think the answer to my original question is that RZLLICLASS is used by both server AND logon groups.

If you look at the label of field CLASSNAME it says "Logon/Server Group Name" which I think is a bit of a givaway.

Check this one if its relevant to your question.

Hello Vijay,

The link is a good overview of how resources are allocated to RFC processing, however it doesn' t explain how the system decides which is the next server that will be used for a particular RFC call. Both SMQR and SMQS can be set to use a logon group defined in RZ12. RZ12 can be used to change some of the RFC related parameters from your link. The group defined in RZ12 does not have to exist as a logon group in SMLG, so RZLICLASS cannot be used.

This question has bothered me for a long time.

Kind regards,

Peter

Hello!

Found this post while searching information about RFC and Logon Groups...

I have some mess in my head with SMLG functionality and RZ12. As I know SMLG we can use to distribute users to application server instances, it gives us good achievement in performance. With RZ12 we can distribute RFC connection of particular job for parallel execution on predefined application server. With SMQS and SMQR transaction we can set "Name of AS Group" to route RFC-execution on certain server or servers. But I have troubles with understanding. Imagine, we set up group 1 with 2 servers (name it RFC_GR1), and group 2 with another 2 servers (name it RFC_GR2). How could qRFC scheduler decide on which RFC server group (RFC_GR1 or RFC_GR2) distribute RFC-execution? How to interact "Name of AS Group" with RFC groups if we can set only one group? How could we distribute RFC-execution depending on our logon groups (smlg)? We would like to distribute RFC depending on SAP logon groups. Is it possible? Or do I compare apple and orange?

you can change AS group from SMQR(standard is DEFAULT). you can maintain newly created Logon group either RFC_GR1 or RFC_GR2 from SMQR and qrfc scheduler will use that group for load distribution.

>* I don't award points

We (SDN community) not contributing for points. I think the main aim is to help consultants who has technical issues within SAP or need some help/suggestions.

Are you looking for the information under help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/c4/3a7f39505211d189550000e829fbbd/frameset.htm

Exactly. I feel like awarding you points

This gives an explanation of how to use RZ12 logon groups but no indication of the algorithm that the group uses to decide the next server for RFC processing.

Kind regards,

Peter

To the moderator: Could you then please delete the footnote of every post that states "Please award points"?

Seriously?, in the past lots of people (including me) used that frase, since strict moderation started we have done serious efforts to clamp on people a.sking or offering (or not offering) p.oints as ultimately is not what this site is all about. Stating that you won't r.eward p.oints is not necesary.

I am not aware of any document describing this algorithm.

And not sure if this helps, but you could have a look at the ABAP source code.

Some time ago I tried that for logon balancing with SMLG, and I was able to find the algorithm in the code of program RSRZLQVA.

But currently I haven't got the time nor the desire for researching RZ12.

All it started with point system thats corrupting peoples mind.

The point system should be scraped and a simple appreciation in the message if it really helped should suffice for the contributers.

I hate to see people asking for points and those who got help saying i 've awarded points(feel like unethical)

Hello Juan,

My comments are based on old information and are currently unfounded and misplaced. I apologise and thank you and the other moderators for your efforts.

Hello Joe Bo,

Thank you for the suggestion.

SMLG load balancing is well documented however for RZ12 there I can find nothing on load balancing but a lot on resource allocation.

I probably lack the skills to look at the code directly but I will do my best.

Kind regards,

Peter

Hi,

Did you have a look at the note :

SAP Note 593058 - New RFC load balancing procedure

SAP Note 986373 - RFC load distribution

May be this gives you some idea on the different load balancing procedures. RZ12 is mainly used for RFC load balancing, In genral use it when we do a initial download from ISU-CRM.

Vamshi.
