Using JCo instead of IBM/Lotus SAP Connector

We are currently using the IBM/Lotus SAP Connector to join our Domino/Notes environment to SAP. There are several applications running that allow users to use the familiar Notes client to access SAP data and perform some BAPI (REQUISITION_CREATE, etc). But now everything is becoming web-enabled.

Does anyone have experience in this type of environment to help guide me for application development? All Domino servers are licensed to use IBM's J2EE Websphere Application Server.
