Input UI element

What is the reason for the size enlargement of a mandatory inputfield UI element when the "Enable" property is set to "False"? Is it a Bug?

The round about solution would be to programatically changing the "state" property to "optional" and then do the disabling..But I feel this is not an ideal approach..
