A recommended starting point are of course SAP's official training courses. If you want to start yourself I would recommend Horst Keller's book ABAP Objects: "Introduction to Programming SAP Applications" by Addison Wesley (the german version by SAP-Press).

The book contains also the CDs for your own training system.

You might also take a look at the Web Application Server documentation available at "help.sap.com" where you find also a ABAP programming chapter, but this is more a reference type documentation .The book is probably a better starting point.

BTW: Since 4.6 the name ABAP/4 is depricated, the language is name is ABAP Objects to point out the OO features.
