Enterprise 6.20 and BD87 IDOC processing: not working for us

We're doing a lot of EDI and have been using BD87 extensively in testing to process IDOCs in 4.6C. We've just put in the Enterprise 6.2 upgrade and are working thru it and have found that BD87 will no longer let us process IDOCs, although the functionality appears to be there (buttons and menu options still present). When we select a status or message type node and click process (or select restrict and process) we get a message saying that processing not possible with this node type. Even if it's a status 64 or 51, which are both eminently processsable.

What is strange is that we can select and process IDOCs at status 30 but get the program to reprocess IDOCs with syntax errors (RBDSYNE0), instead of RSEOUT00.

This leads me to believe there may be a bug. We are on basis system 6.20, hot pack release SAPKB62017. Any insight would be appreciated.
