46C and WAS - Possible? Issues?

We are presently at 46C and will upgrade as late as 24 months out.  I have read that the WAS can be set up to work with 46C via rfc/bapi. Has anyone successfully done this? I would like to better understand any issues and limitations in this approach.

Hello David,

you can use Web AS 6.30 or later 6.40 - it works with no problems accessing RFCs and BAPIs from 4.6C. The reason is that accessing those components from Web AS happens in a loosly coupled fashion via JCO, so Web AS and the application server your R/3 system is based on need not be of the same version.
