Webdynpro custom look

Hi,

I have been wading through the webdynpro documentation (even had a go at the "hello world" application) and at first glance it seems to be a decent concept of building "business" web applications. What I could not found however is anything about being able to change the look of the gui controls in terms of colors, fonts, etc ...

I looked at the generated HTML (well javascript) page and found a reference to a CSS file (as expected) but no where is mentioned if you can easily replace this with your own css files ...

Any info on that?

Thx,

Steven

Since WebDynPro applications are designed to be hosted in the mySAP Enterprise Portal, the style chosen in the portal will determine the final look and feel. Hence, you can use the portal Style Editor to set colors, fonts, etc.

Hi there,

When you read through the various presentations and documentation about "Webdynpro", it is clearly stated that this technology is the corner stone for "Portal Applications", "xApps" and "e-business web applications" ...

So your answer is probably true for any portal developments but for stand-alone web applications my remark still stands ...

Thx,

Steven

The Sneak Preview Edition you work with does not include all features of the final products. Web Dynpro will be customizable in a later release and general available release.

Hi all,

I just have exactly the same question. In the TechEd in Basel they told me to post this question in the SDN. They could not tell me whether it will be possible to specify own CSS files in a WebDynpro.

I could not understand from your answer whether this will be possible or not.

Could you please tell me whether there will be the possibility in WebDynpro for ABAP to specify own CSS files?

Many thanks!

Hello,

first of all, I totally agree with Darren Hague's response: We assume that in most any case, Web Dynpro apps will run in the portal, and then they will pick up the theme from the portal anyway. Of course, this holds both for Web Dynpro Java and Web Dynpro ABAP.

Therefore, we did not include an easy way to change the style sheet for "stand-alone" apps. There are, however, style sheets on the server that are used by the Web Dynpro framework when there is no portal around. On the J2EE Server (version 6.30!) they would be in directory:

...j2eeclusterserver0 empwebdynprowebsap.comWebDynproglobalCSFstyle

As of Web AS 6.40 they will also be found in the ABAP MIME repository to support Web Dynpro ABAP.

If you change those style sheets, you will change the look of all Web Dynpro applications that run outside the portal. You will find that it's actually a set of style sheets working together - the style definitions are split up into a client-side framework (csf) and a unified rendering (ur) part, and into various versions for the different types of browsers (ie5, ie6, and nn7). Therefore, we do NOT recommend that you change them manually! If you MUST change styles at all, you should rather turn to the style / theme editing tools that come with EP, and then use their output here. Due to SAP's "unified rendering" strategy - i.e. have just one HTML definition for standard controls, no matter if they appear in EP, HTMLB, Web Dynpro, or elsewhere - this should work fine in most cases.

Best regards

Hi Peter,

Hmmmmm you guys in Walldorf are rather fast in assuming things apparently ...

Whenever I read an article about Webdynpro, this technology is being brought as the big replacement/enhancement for BSP, JSP and servlets technology so one is capable of building professional web applications using the MVC concept...

Now suddently you assume that everybody is using your portal software and web applications will run there ... strange logic if I may say so ...

I don't know the EP software nor its "style/editing tools" but I assume that the latter does not run

independantly or does it?

I cannot see one good reason why we should install the EP just to be able to change a webdynpro application 'looks' in a normal way (thx though for pointing out how it can be done the hard way ... )

Seriously, we are at the beginning of a SAP 6.3 ramp-up to convert our old ITS web application into a webdynpro application; not being able to change just basic things as colours, fonts, etc ... is a serious "show-stopper" for the whole project ... Unbelievable ...

Hi Steven,

In order to clarify this issue directly I would like to ask you to get in touch with me via e-mail karin.schattka@sap.com. Since you are already in the SAP 6.30 ramp-up programme, there should be a SAP ramp-up contact person, who we could involve into this discussion and maybe can find a convenient solution for your specific issue. So please let me know your contact details. Thanks in advance.

Looking forward to hear from you.

Greetings,

Karin

Hi,

I was browsing the forum to find if anyone had just faced with the problem to control the basic style settings of a webdynpro application (fonts, colors, sizes, etc..) both in abap or java environment.

So reading your message I was thinking to ask you about a follow up on this

particular problem.

We are going to rollout a new abap webdynpro application and notwithstanding

various messages that we read and tests we done It seems to be very difficult to set these things that In a web application are considered implicitly easy to manage.

So please Have you finally found a solution about this?

Do you know if there is a note, article or a blog about this?

Thanks a lot
