DBAHIST Logfiles - simply delete them or is there some Tool ?

Hi,

I just recently found out, that there are quite a couple of old logfiles im my dbahist subdirectory.

While I found a lot of good descriptions (i.e. the sdn wiki) of what is stored there and how it is

distrubuted to SAP tables (or not) by whatever processes, nobody seems to take care about

getting rid of these.

The DBMGUI has a function to get rid of the db-analyzer directories.

Is there some kind of reorg Job to smash these dbahist log. Best would be if this happens in a

consistent manner with the related tables inside the SAP database. I am looking for something

that works like i.e. the cleanup function of brconnect for oracle.

If there is not, one can of course simply delete theses files. What happens to the SAP interface

when it does not find the old files it knows about from transactions DB12 / DB13 / DB50 ?

Any insights on that topic?

Thanks

Volker

Hello Volker,

The job DBA:REORG_SDB is responsible for deleting DBA Logs from CCMS if you set up for the database connection the Automatic Deletion of the DBA Logs. Please check it.

Please review the SAP Note No. 945757.

Thank you and best regards, Natalia Khlopina

Sorry for beinig late in a Reply for this thread, I have been more busy in another area.

Meanwhile I have been able to checkout, that the Job mentioned by Natalia

does the desired action. Even in 6.40 as in my case the predecessor (RSSDBREO) mentioned in the note 945757

is scheduled automaticly, so one can assume it should be done automaticly, but you need to do some additional

customizing in transation DB59 to really make the report delete the files on OS Level.

Thanks a lot for the reference to this note

Volker

DB12 and DB13 read the content of flle DBAHIST.PRT, which is not part of the cleanup mentioned by Natalia. Therefore DB12 and DB13 will still show all data as before the cleanup, but when you do a doubleclick on one particular item, you'll get the message 'no log found' if the log of this item has been deleted by the cleanup.
