Page Setup / Help File / Unicode : CRVS2010 Beginner's Issues

Former Member

I have installed Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010.

http://downloads.businessobjects.com/akdlm/cr4vs2010/CRforVS_13_0.exe

My OS is Windows 7 x64 en-us. No CR beta or other version was formerly installed.

Help files have been installed, from...

C:Program Files (x86)SAP BusinessObjectsCrystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0CommonCrystal Reports 2011HelpFilesen

Also, I have watched all the video sessions at...

http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/elearn?rid=/webcontent/uuid/e05469df-cc2d-2d10-33ba-e0010723a965&dprp... [original link is broken]

New to Crystal Reports, I have just started exploring it, so please bear with my ignorance.

I have encountered a few beginner's issues, and need advice before advancing.

Page Setup

As a novice, I use the Report Expert to construct trial .rpt reports.

The wizard creates a nicely formatted Portrait-Letter page by default.

If I need to change it via Page Setup, say, to Landscape-A4, contents would go sideways.

Q: How can I do an automatic reformat?

Q: or configure Page Setup before starting the wizard?

Help File

Searching Ctrl+F1 for "Page Setup Dialog Box" yields a long list of nodes in the left panel.

Yet only nodes that begin with A-F are seen, those G-Z fall off the browser bottom.

Q: How do I vertically scroll the left panel, or move the nodes up?

Q: or access those forsaken nodes via some other links elsewhere?

Also, on the right hand side, lines do not wrap at the IE window edge.

They actually do wrap, but at about 10 words outside the browser unless screen is 1920 wide.

For instance...

The quick || brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox junps || xxxx xxx

zzzz zzz. ||

One needs to scroll right to read "xxxx xxx", then scroll back left to read "zzzz zzz".

Unicode

No problem so far working in the [Main Report] window.

But, switching to [Main Report Preview], I do not get SQL fields correctly rendered.

Unicode characters become square blocks, and empty fields show "#####".

I have worked with VS2010 for several months, and Unicode has never posed any problem.

Q: Am I missing something required to configure Unicode for CR?

If required, I could provide screenshots of all the above scenarios.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanking you in advance!

I'll answer only the Page Setup question here. Not because I want to be mean or anything, but as a matter of keeping these threads clean and easily searchable it is recommended in that a thread be limited to one question only. See the [Rules of Engagement|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/wiki?path=/display/home/rulesofEngagement]. Please create new threads for the other queries.

You can not - unless the Landscape orientation is defined in the printer driver properties to be default. As most printer drivers use portrait as default orientation and CR uses this to format the palette, you see portrait. You can change this orientation after you have created the initial report. This can be done in the design environment or via APIs.

Thank you!

My apology for the multiple questions.
