SP6 upgrade changes second level navigation

Former Member

We just upgraded a DEV environment to SP6 (from SP5 hf 4). The second level navigation now contains a permanent '<<Back To'. Does anyone know how to remove it? We liked it better when it displayed only when needed. We have very few pages that have detailed navigation so it just clutters the menu.

I have put in a customer note to SAP, requesting how to remove this "back" button; will post results here when (and if) resolution is received....

and here is the response....

Description

Transaction : Program : Screen :

Error Message TLN master iView ClientSideTopLevelNav now delivers a

"Back" button on the left side of the 2nd-Level-Nav line...

How can this be removed?

Dear Tom,

This "Back To" link is inbuilt, this link is to help the Navigation

when we navigate from Detail Navigation into a page or an External

Service. "Back To" link is not customizable. This is part of the feature

of EP5 SP6.

Thanks for your understanding. If you have any more queries regarding

this please feel free to ask else confirm this message at your earliest

convenience.

Well, it looks like we can actually get the "<Back" button out of 2nd-level-nav by making user changes to style sheets

Check the path below (where \xxxxxxxx\ is the stylesheet you want to affect)

\SAP_J2EEngine6.20\alone\services\servlet_jsp\work\jspTemp\irj\root\services\laf\themes\portal\xxxxxxxx\prtl\

you will find files "prtl_ie5.css" and "prtl_ie6.css" [we don't use netscape, so haven't looked at prtl_nn4/nn6.css]

Inside the .css files, the prtlDtlNavBackLnk and prtlDtlNavBackBullet classes control the "<Back" button...

we have set both to "display:none" and, voila (that's French), the "<Back" button is gone

Follow-up to changing the files "prtl_ie5.css" and "prtl_ie6.css" from my earlier posting...

The above files are overwritten when you use the SAP Style Editor to make changes to your Design, and you will have to re-enter your changes to those files
