hi Manu,
relation between plan types and plan is much similar to relation between job and position.
Let me explain you with an examples...
You would know that by standard SAP offers 7 types of plans categories--saving, credit, health, insurance, stock, miscellaneous and flexible spending accounts.
Imagine a company offering health plans.
1)dental plans
2)general medical plan
In the above scenario both are of plan category 'HEALTH'
In the system, we create 2 plan types
1) DENT (dental plans) plan type
and
2)GEN (general medical plan)
The above plan types are created in Personal Management>Benefits>Basic settings-->Plan attributes-> Plan types
We will have a scenario where we numerous vendors offering the above health insurance plans.
Example, dental plans is offered by apollo healt insurance, fortis healt insurance and GM health insurance
Now we create the actual health plans (DENT 1, DENT 2 and DENT 3).
1)DENT 1 of plan type DENT -->provided by apollo
2)DENT 2 of plan type DENT--->provided by fortis
3)DENT 3 of plan type DENT-->provided by GM
The employees have the option of enrolling into one of the above health insurance plans being provided by different vendors.
similary we can different plans of plan type GEN for the medical plans.
Plan category is the topmost node in the hirearchy(if you can imagine one)
then for each plan categ, comes various plan types.
And then for various plan types comes various plans.
I hope things would be much clearer.
Thank you,
Jose
