In this case you should go to the SAP Service Marketplace -> Release and Upgrade-Info -> Installation Guides and check the available SAP documentation. You will find a proper description of the requirements, necessary installation steps as well as noteworthy SAP notes with further information in one place.

I acn't find any documentation regarding Dialog Instance in SAP Service Marketplace -> Release and Upgrade-Info -> Installation Guides

Shall I search for any specific option?

Thanks,

Sanaz.

You should look for your R\3 release on the target OS and DB plattform. In each documentation there is also a description for the installation of dialogue instances.

Kind regards,

Dialog server instances installed locally on clusters nodes are not supported in 6.40.

Installing them on separate servers does not differ from a normal distributed installation except that you have to use
thevirtualSAPHostname\sapmnt when asked for the profile directory.

SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME does not need to be specified.

Would you mind please let me know some more detail about:

-
thevirtualSAPHostname\sapmnt

- SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME

during installation there are some parameteres that I don't know. They are as follows:

- SAP System Common Parameters --> Instance Host --> Should I use Cluster name or cluster node which is active?

- SAP System Instance Directories --> Host with Transport Directory --> Should I use Cluster name or cluster node which is active?

and also using cluster node name, dedicate Dialog Instance to just the cluster node defined during installtion process. If I switch cluster node what might happen?

Thanks,

If your installation is under Cluster then always user cluster resource/group names.

My installation is under cluster but it doesn't accept cluster name. It seems that I have to use node name which is not applicabale in my scenario

use virtual hostnames. You must have virtual host names for your cluster, CI, ASCS & DB.

Here is my scenario:

Node1 Hostname is: firstnode

Node2 Hostname is: secondnode

SAP Cluster Name is: clustergroup

During Dialog Instance Installation when I use clustergroup it added some additional character to the name and use the following url to connect to sapmnt

clustergroup1\sapmnt

and it is normal that during installation it will fail

If I choose active node name everything works fine but I don't know know if this is normal procedure under cluster

thanks

I think your original question was how to install the dialog instance on clustered systems right?

- Where you want to install the dialog instance on one of the clustered system or you have separate server.

- Noting special procedure to install dialog instance even though your CI/DB are in cluster. Just make sure that you give the virtual host whenever requested.

Now your query about MSCS configuration. Is this a new system or already installed/configure since long.

- If this is new installation then I suggest you must refer installation guide where you can find all the related information.

- Make sure you go thorough the MSCS documents to clear your doubts.

Hi,

There is no differnce for uninstalling Dialog instance , as i suppose it will not be on cluster , eventhough its on cluster we need to specify SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME

like sapinst SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME , rest all will be like normal dialog instance uninstallation process.
