CEWB BOM Entry Line Advancement

Former Member

This might be an odd question, but i'm entering various BOMs from our engineering group and there are quite a few entries to be done. Seems that CEWB is configured to not allow line by line entry. By that, i mean, i hit the ENTER button to populate a line of the bom and the cursor then defaults to the BOM Header in the Context box. Is there a way to change it so the default action of the ENTER key so that when it is depressed it will advance to the next open line in the BOM?

This isnt a HUGE issue, but when you have a couple hundred lines to enter and you have to take your hand away from the keyboard to place it on the mouse and manually select the next line in the BOM, it can make things take quite a bit longer to enter.

I appreciate the help.

Hi,

in CEWB use additional selection criteria, choose BOM header TAB and enter your BOM numbers by using multiple entry option.

try out and come back ,

Thanks Ritesh, but I dont see that using the multiple selection criteria helps in this situation. Our BOM as it comes from engineering has specific item numbers that do not rise incrementally and are based upon a standard design package that is then changed to suit our customer's needs. Because of this we have gaps in the item listing.

I also could not find on the BOM Header section where multiple items could be entered. Yes, i can select a range from various categories, but the BOM Component multiple selection didnt seem to perform a function (not under the BOM Header tab, its under the Item tab).

To reiterate what i'm trying to do in the end, is manual maintenance on a newly created BOM, so i'm structuring it from the ground up via item number and component. So, after execturing the BOM and Task list with reference to our engineering task list, i get to the header, then navigate to the Items and begin entering BOM components and item numbers. Pressing enter after an item and component entry auto-fills the component description but defaults the next maintainable item to the BOM Header Material in the Context viewbox.

Please understand, i'm more or less new to CEWB and i'm in movement from project planning functionality to mrp control so CEWB is a new transaction to me and what has been allowed for my profile. I have used it thusfar for BOM maintenance, but entry seems extremely slow unless i am able to import material directly from an excel/txt file. Line by line having to mouse to every line rather than slam the enter key is tedious and i'd assume there was a better for components to be entered onto a BOM in large scale under a manual entry.

I appreciate the help, thank you.

Ehren ,

CEWB is a huge transaction and as you are new thats why you are facing problem.

try to write down what steps you are following starting with entering CEWB in command window.

you need to specify work area, which decide what are the titels you are working with , you can have BOM header as well as component, if its not visible then check with your basis team to get proper authorizations.

i dont know the way other wise i would have paste some screen shots here.

after entering work area , you can see many tabs on screen , ex header , operation , su operation , BOM header , Item , sub item etc

select BOm header , the in the field where you can range of header material you can find a small yellow icon press it it will give you a new pop up there you can input all the header materail for which you want to to do maintainance, you can input a item or modify details of existing items.

you can input list of BOms you want to modify and you can even have option to select N number of componet at same time.

Check may be it will help you.

Steps entered to enter and alter a BOM currently are as follows:

- Enter transaction CEWB

- Work area default to BOM Focus

- Enter Change Number

- Enter Selection Date Range

- Enter Material to maintain

- Execute "Load BOMs and Task Lists"

- Enter Base quantity

- Navigate to menu "Bill of Material" and select "Items"

- Begin entering bill of material component and item number one-by-one depressing enter to populate material information.

OOooooooh... i think i see. For my particular access they are locking me out of everything EXCEPT for BOM and Routing working areas. I dont have an allowance for Component focus in the Working area.

I think you might have helped there, Ritesh. I'll be contacting our ERP team to see about unlocking other functionality.
