import via .BIAR files

Hi All,

I am trying to migrate reports from one server to another and trying to use the import wizard. I am on BO XI.

HAve few questions on the import steps. I understand that I can do via .biar files since the two servers do not communicate to each other.

Qs: where do i create my .BIAR file?? somewhere on the serevr or even on my local machine ?

If i create a .biar file in my local machine and do the import process, when i choose destination as that .biar file on local machine i get an error IWZ00001 (check logon info and try again.) Not sure what to do.

Kindly suggest.

Hi

You can create .BIAR file on your server using Import wizard.

If you are getting mentioned error make sure that you are giving proper Source (BOE) login details.

The general steps involved are

1. Export to a BIAR file using import wizard, by seleting destination as .BIAR file.

2. Import using .BIAR file, select .BIAR as source & BOE system as destination.

Hi Ashwini, Thanks for your response.

I followed the same steps before posting this question, Created .biar file on my local machine .

In import wizard gave the login credentials in source which it accepted but when i gave the path for .biar in destination i got that error IWZ0001(check login credentials).

I have tried using both login credentials fo source , one for BO virtual servers and the second one i use for Designer(Admin though).

Pls suggest what to do

Prerequest:

You should have Remote access to both the server the BO is installed

Approach1:

Login to source server

create a folder with the name temp.biar in the desktop of server 1

Go to import wizard of server 1

select server 1 as source and temp.biar file as a destination and import all that required to biar file

from server 1 connect to server 2 and place this biar file in some shared folder

connect to server2

open the shared folder and copy that biar file and place it in the desktop of server2

Go to import wizard of server 2

select the temp.biar file from desktop of server 2 and destination as server 2

and complete the process

Note: as we are doing this in remote, there will be lot of issues while connection to path which sometimes even the erro r message will mislead us....

Approach2:

dont create any biar file

Login to server 2

Go to import wizard

select server 1 as source and server 2 as destination and move directly from server to server

Approach2 is not preffered if server 2 is production serve....

this may help

Thanks,

Hi Ganesh,

Your answers seems very helpful, how ever I havent tried it yet.

Do you think Approach 1 is good even for taking backups? and in that case where shud the biar file be placed after importing all objects from source 1 to .biar.

Thanks a lot

If taking back up frequently then there will be some team to do this as part of a process

or if the back up is taken on demand the developer can have it in his own local desktop

Thanks,
