Hello,
I am an SAP-ABAP consultant , just started learning SAP-EWM.
when we are just using ware house in EWM, we have plant in ECC , but Why do we need plant in EWM and what is the purpose of business attributes.
I know definitions of Supply chain unit that it is a location that gives geographical information.
I also know we identify a supply chain unit in EWM by role , whether it is 1001 or shipping point by 1003.
I know how to create a supply chain unit even.
I dont understand the concept of Supply chain unit , why do we need it and what is the purpose of it.
Can some one please explain in very layman's terms .
Thanks in Advance.
Veena.
Hi,
what a SCU is, is described here:
"why do we need it and what is the purpose of it."
I am not sure that anyone knows the answer to that....

Hi Veena,
If we want to go with route determination , it would require a geographical validation in EWM system, and that information can get from the SCU.
another example,if we want to use DOORs assignment ,validation is required and system can expect a attribute as 'DOOR' from SCU.
The same validation apply for shipping office and GR office also during the transactions.

Hi Veena,
I think this article is very useful to clarify the supply chain chain behavior, check it out:
http://www.scmfocus.com/sapplanning/2008/08/04/ewm-organizational-units-and-setup-2/
It is not possible copy and paste the content here, but the section "Quick Notes" has good information about SCU.
