Running DBMON for ST04 Statistics?

Is everyone running DBMON for ST04 statistics? At one time it slowed down general database activity because it was so busy collecting statistics. We are checking to see if that is still true.

The main reason for the question is whether it could be slowing down our CRM 7.0 database accesses.

Thanks much,

-Margie

If you are at V5R4M0 or higher, you can use the SQL Plan Cache Dump instead of the database monitor. SAP Note 1083218 explains how to switch. If V6R1M0 and higher, the database monitor is no longer used, but the SQL Plan Cache Dump is the default (unless profile parameter as4/dbmon/enable is set to 0, which turns off all activity for ST04).

While the database monitor added some overhead to each SQL statement by collecting information about the executed statements, the plan cache dump does not add overhead, except a little for the dump itself. Some more information about this can be found in SAP Note 1083218.

    Kind regards,

      Hi Margie,

there is good and bad news ...

The good news is, that the system will no longer hang with the new setup - it needs a few ressources, but not really a lot.

The bad news is, that part of the data is not really reliable as the "1ms" SQLs are typically faster than that ...

Therefore, I prefer to directly use the OpsNav Plan Cache and then deactivate this within SAP.

That is really a great feature !!!
