S loc field not present in 89 lot < Standard ?>

Hello Experts,

We have a requirement to make Storage location field mandatory in '89' origin lots. I have observed that

1. For non batch material- There is no field of S loc in QA01 transaction.

2. For batch managed: If I am creating a batch from QA01 itself, system will grey out S Loc field at that time. Only if I am using an existing batch, S loc field can be updated and then also it it is not mandatory.

We tried with Badi, Inspection lot_update but no success.

Can this be controlled from Config? Transaction variant is a solution but client is not recommending it.

An 89 inspection lot is not stock relevant. Therefore, for a batch managed material it doesn't matter what portion of material of that batch you are testing. The test results will apply to all occurrences of the batch regardless of how many storage locations it is spread across.

Ditto for a non-batch managed material since its all the same entitiy as far as SAP is concerned.
