Unit of Issue or Base unit of Measure to be maintained for BOM item

Former Member

Hello,

I was creating a BOM and for one of the items I was trying to enter qty in one of the alternative units of measure as below.

Item A

Base unit of Measure: PC

Alternative units maintained: 1PC = 6 Inch, 1Carton = 12 PC

Unit of issue in Plant/Stor Loc view = Carton

When I tried to enter the Qty for the BOM item in Inches, the system gives me an error saying that the unit of measure should either be a Base UOM or Issue UOM.

Any advise is appreciated.

Thank you

Dear in additional data alternative unit of measure instead of 1PC = 6 Inch, 1Carton = 12 PC maintain as 1 pc = 6 inch = 0.083 carton.

Check and Revert.

Hello Kiran,

Thank you for your reply, but that bring up another question for me. As far as I am aware we have to maintain each alternative unit of measure with reference to base unit of measure.

Are you aware of any way to get around this in my example

I maintained all the Alt UOMs with respect to PC which is my Base UOM.

Is there a way to maintain 6 In = -083 carton. I always thought we have to maintain each Alt UOM with respect to base UOM only.

Dear always you need to maintain alternate unit of measure with respect to base unit of measure only.

Is there a way to maintain 6 In = -083 carton?

No you can't do that it is not with respect to base unit of measure.

If you have 4 or 5 alternate unit of measures maintain them all with respect to base unit of measure.

in your case maintain 1 pc = 6 inch in one row and then 1 pc = 0.083 carton in second row.

Check and Revert.

Cheers

Dear ,

You should create BOM componenets in Base Unit of measure of BOM or Unit Of issue in MM01 and then you need to add the Item in BOM-CS02 becasue BOM supports either Base Unit of Measure or Unit Of issue .

Hope this is clear

Thank you all for your responses. I didnt get what I am looking for which is maintain BOM components in any UOM irrespective of whether I maintain that particular UOM as Base UOM or Unit of issue. But at least now it is confirmed that I cant do that.

In case of component maintain Unit of issue as INch in plant data storage loc view In Material Master and then create / add the BOM component in a BOM

Hi,

Please enter 'INCHES" to the Component's material master --> 'plant data/stor1 view' --> 'Unit of Issue' field

Hello Senthil,

Thank you for your reply. I am aware that I can do that but my concern is ...what can I do when I have more than 2 Alt UOM. Per SAP...the UOM has to be maintained in either Base UOM or Unit of Issue fields to be able to use in the BOMs.

What do we do in situations where there are say 4 or 5 different UOMs and i want to use one of them that is not Base UOM or Unit of Issue while creating BOMs.
