Time in BPC

Hi there,

my name is Michael I'm using BPC 7.0 for Microsoft and I'm feeling a little insecure concerning the use of time elements in BPC.

So far I have build up an environment for consolidation with YTD data. Everything was fine as I need only one time dimension and only month as periods.

In a new project we are trying to establish a reporting application. We want to report on sales and purchasing figures and we are going down to the single order.

That means that I have now invoice dates, shipping dates, order dates, purchasing dates and so on. I think it is easy to see, that the standard time dimension, even if I go down to days won't do the trick.

I have now considered to create dimensions for the different dates. The problem I see here, is that I can't set up filter in BPC for Excel to choose order with the order date from, lets say, April 1st to April 10th.

Has anybody here already build something similar and has made some useful experiences.

I appreciate all kind of help on that issue.

Thank you very much

Regards

Michael

    Hi Michael,

I am not sure how helpful my answer would be, but why dont you try to set the invoice, shipping, order, etc as a member of the account dimension or some other dimension and maintain the dates in the time dimension.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Nilanjan,

    thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately I do not think that this solves my issue. I have to connect the different kinds of dates with certain accounts like quantity or revenue, so I think I can not have them in the account dimension as could not cross both elements with each other anymore. Especially as I also have to cross a certain shipping date, with a certain delivery date.

    Regards

    Michael

    Yes, I think so.

Do you have any idea how I could filter then in a report?

I mean how can I show entries for a certain time range?

I know that I can choose a number of elements seperated by comma. This is however to much effort if we are talking about all days for three months for instance. I know also that I can use hierarchies and then I can choose the basmembers for a month or a year. Still hierarchies are higher effort in creating the dimension.

      Hi Michael,

We need to maintain either hierarchies or we need to hardcode them. Alternatively, you can maintain some property. Lets say 1 for all the 2008 Q1 dates, 2 for 2008 Q2 dates and so on. Then you can use this property for displaying the required members in the report.

      Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your reply.

I guess I just have to create such kind of work around, although that not really creates the function I'd like to offer my customer.

If somebody knows some better way, I'd greatly appreciate this.

    Regards

    Michael
