Dear all,
Is it possible if I define external number range only with numbers not alphabet. I have defined external number range as 000000001 to zzzzzzzzzzzz but its not accepting external number as 10000203030 when creating material master.
Pls guide

External no. range can definitely be only numeric.

Deferinatiate the material type, and assign them to appropriate group, and give the number range to group,

Check 2 Function Modules:
EXIT_SAPLMG02_001 - Customer Exit: Internal Material Number Assignment
EXIT_SAPLMG02_002 - Customer Exit: External Material Number Assignment
Also one material type can only be assigned to one internal and one external number range
both number ranges must not overlay each other,
Number range can be defined like this from 1 to zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz so anything can be done within this one range

Hi,
System won't allow numeric number as the external number. External number should be Alpha numeric.
So, maintain combination of Numeric as well as Alphabets in the external number.

material no. ranges are defined on the basis of groups. Define separate group for your material type and assign no. range.

If you want only numbers then take 0000000001 to 999999999999 not zzzzzzzzzzz
This will solve your problem.

I did the same thing. But already there was internal number range like this, so I had to delete that. Now only external number range is there. But for every material type its showing the same mat no. range. If now I want different no. rnge for say Raw mate.g. RM10001, then what to do?

For what are material types you required same number range, assign all these material types to one group.
For ex: you have 10 material types. Your requirement is to assign one number range to 5 material types and another number range to the remaining material types.
Then create two groups with the two different number ranges.
Then assign 5 material types on one group and remaining to another group
