Should we use negative condition in selection in HANA DB

I have this basic question about using negative (<>) or other relational parameters (LE, GE etc) in selection from application later on a HANA DB. Previously in conventional DB we used to avoid using any of this operators in selection statement where we had used an index, as this will force the selection for sequential read. Is the same concept true for HANA db as well? or we can use these parameters in selection now, if we have a HANA db.

Appreciate your help on this.
