How to rename dimensions and measures displayed in a Design Studio InfoChart

In DesignStudio is there a way to rename the dimensions and measures returned by a data-source when they are displayed in an InfoChart?

In the screenshot below I have an (Bar-Chart) InfoChart that is based on a BusinessObjects IDT .unx universe.

I can see that the names of the dimensions and measures displayed in the legend and in the tool-tip are based upon the names of the business-layer objects in the universe.

There seems to be no way to override the default naming convention of these dimensions/measures in the DesignStudio tool itself.

This means that if we wish to give a universe measure a certain name in one analysis application, and another name in another application, we would be forced to duplicate the measure with two different names.

Thank you in advance.

Hi - a similar question was asked in this thread: https://archive.sap.com/discussions/thread/3875744 where Karol recommends looking at the Scorecard component.

If you are using universes and need to rename fields, I also recommend trying SAP Lumira which has this feature.

Hi Knoa,

What is the business reason for applying a different name to the same measure in different applications? For consistency would you not want the same measure to express the same meaning in all applications instead of specifying different names?

Hello Mustafa,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

One business case is where we display the same measure in different kinds of components for different applications, e.g. a KPI scorecard in one application, and an single/dual-axis InfoChart in another.

In the former case of a KPI scorecard, we would display many narrow columns of metrics, and an abbreviated naming convention for the measure would be more appropriate. In the latter case of an InfoChart, where the measure is the only metric/label for an axis on the chart, a longer, more elaborate name would be preferred.

But irrespective of the use case, it would be nice if the tool could give us more control over naming conventions of items displayed in InfoCharts.

Hi Knoa,

Thanks for the clarification. Changing the measure name for abbreviation purposes as described in your example makes complete sense. Unfortunately this is not supported in the standard functionality yet. I see you have already raised an idea for this which hopefully will receive due consideration.

Mustafa.

Any chance of an update on this? The "idea" link from Dec. 7, 2016 is broken and the new SAP "influence" sight is extremely difficult to navigate to find any previously-submitted ideas.

Hi Chris,

I am not aware of any updates on this. However, my personal sense is that this particular request would probably not be considered a high priority for development.

Mustafa.
