rough BOM at the time of product development

dear expert:

excuse my nascent approach. i dont know how to address this but my client is asking to fullfill the below requirement

we are Apparel manufacturing company. as per our scenerio we pass a long development period approx 6 months before receiving confirm sales order. we need to create preliminary or rough BOM at this stage to manage the sudden load of information. as during the development time we just got little information about the product and it is subject to change is it possible to create a rough BOM and update it continuously as and when required with proper material code and finally when we are sure we need to confirm it as final BOM.

please suggest.

We are dealing this kind scinario in small project business where total product developement takes mini 4-5 motnhs and based on design BOM is not confirmed 100% .

So we do estomation through Quotation stage -VA21 where we follow Unit costing methodology with variable and item details based on the customer requirement.Some time we also create Engineering BOM based on the design lay out and after final approval and contractual aggrement , we logg sales order for cost roll up based on the approve BOM and routing .There may be lot consumables as well low cost material required , which we add directly at Production order but the most crtifcal items are in Qoutation or estimation stage /Engineering BOM.

But if you want to create BOM at the intial stage and subsequently , want to trace the changes doen then you should adop ECM ( Engineeting Change Management ) .For engineering change management to be activated you need to define in

modification parameters that ECM is to be active.

Dear,

Usually A Engineering BOM is created with the available information. Once the confirmed BOM is know, then you can copy Engineering BOM to production BOM.

One more way you can create a sub assembly production BOM, go on review/change depending on the requirement, once sales order requirement is know, the create a final assembly BOM and create a production order. You can even use Phantom assembly concept if you want use only one BOM with component from many sub assemblies.

Dear Iqbal,

Give a try using ECM concept or else for a different BOM usage at the time of BOM creation,once the BOM is finalised,copy it to

the BOM usage for production 1 in CS01.
