CRVS2010 Beta 2 - Help files

Former Member

I have searched and found several version of an updated help file link but none work so I don't know if that will fix my problem.

I installed the beta and the help did not work. I checked several threads and found you have to use local help (yuck) so I installed the VS local help from online. That at least got part of it working.

Ok now when I click on the "Lib Home" and then "Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010" I get a blank page. If I do a search for "Crystal Reports" a few links so up and work but images are X out and the internal links don't work. I either get a blank page or the help screen telling me to configure the help. I tried "Manage Help Settings" and it shows the SAP help files as being installed and local.

I can seem VS help and some of the CR help so I am guessing part of it works but not enough to be useful.

Before wasting anymore time on this, does the help work? Is there a trick? Do I need to wait for RTM to view the help files? Is there an on-line version?

Regards,

John

Wait for RTM. In the meantime, you can download the CR2008 help file. Most of the content here will apply to CRVS2010:

I don't mind waiting for RTM but I need something to test with. I don't mind using the 2008 files if they have the WPF stuff in them.

But the CHM files I download have indexes and all the pages are blank, any clue how to view them?

I have other CHM file that work fine.

John

Hi John,

What browser are you using? I've seen this happen if the chm file is not saved locally and trying to view it off the download site directly.

Could be a pop-up blocker or likely a permission issue...

Also, you can get the help file from a link in the original Beta post:

Thank you

I am using IE8 for a browser. It is not trying to open a popup so I would not think so, the page is to the right in another area. It also would not explain whey pictures are missing. The MS help data shows fine, not sure what they use I would assume the same method.

I tried to download from the link you just gave, several times. I get the below error. I saw several link before I asked with update links but they don't work either so I am not the only one with the problem.

*******************

Error - download expired

Sorry, the file you want to download already expired or the id is incorrect.

I will look with fiddler, see if that brings any insight.

But if changed to this work

if you go to liberary home the "Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010" does not work but "Root Title (Rename this)" seems to have some working links and it is CR data.

That I understand. How do you use the new features without help files? The demo videos are nice but very basic and I need more functionallity than that.

Doc should be made available once it's out of Beta.

There's currently no guarantees that the API won't change on official release.

Currently I am working on a new appllication which I was hoping to have completed by the end of the year. Since CR was going to come out of beta by then it seem like a good time to add the CR functionallity into my application.

Since I can't write code without documention I guess I will have to find another solution.

Hello John,

That's unfortunate - that the CRVS2010 release timeline won't mesh with your application timeline.

I will state that the product is Beta - so I'd not recommend it for production use at this time. Something to keep in mind, even in the planning/conception stages of any project.

Current fully supported CR.NET SDK would be the CR 2008 product or the CR Basic that comes with VS 2008.

If you have another opportunity in the future, please do check out the CRVS2010 on official release for consideration.

Sincerely,

Ted Ueda

Hi John,

Sorry about the link. The PM for this product uploaded it to our FTP site but it has timed out the file. I'll get him to publish the file again and then update you and the link in the original post.

When you get the help file won't hook into VS but it works fine through your browser.

Thank you

The files have been uploaded to an ftp server:

The link will be live within the next 1/2 hour.
